Stamp and Coin Collecting (Coin Collecting)

Coin Collecting Category

For some reason, stamp and coin collecting just seem to go hand in hand. There is just something about collecting old coins and stamps that people find so attractive. If you start one of them, chances are you’ll then get interested in the other. There is just something about collecting things that many other people don’t have that makes it so addictive.

Stamp collecting has been around ever since the first ever stamp the “penny black” was introduced in the UK. Over the following decades hundreds of different stamps were produced by different countries and people just had to have them. Stamp collectors are known as philatelists. There are millions of them around the world who like nothing more than collecting rare stamps to add to their collections.

Coin collecting started a long way before stamp collecting did. Obviously because coins have been around a lot longer than stamps! Coin collecting is quite often referred to as numismatics. Old coins have a lot of value. This is not just because they are old and in some cases rare, it’s because they could easily have been made from a precious metal, such as gold or silver. Nowadays coins are made as cheaply as possible out of inexpensive metals.

Stamp and Coin collecting is very addictive and a great hobby for anyone who has a bit of time on their hands. You can start small and build up a large collection in no time. Once you gain a little experience you’ll quickly be able to spot a bargain and maybe even be able to profit from this popular hobby.

It has also become a lot easier to find out information about stamps and coins due to the mass explosion and popularity of the internet. There are literally hundreds and thousands of websites you can view to find out pretty much all you need to know about most topics, not just stamp and coin collecting.
